My Phone for Android — Privacy Policy

For the My Phone Android app (org.ownpbx.myphone), the free, open-source companion app for own-pbx. Last updated October 27, 2026.

In short

The app talks only to the PBX server you sign into. The developer runs no cloud service for this app and receives none of your data. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no Google services.

Who provides the app

My Phone is developed by the own-pbx project (DanversKara/MyPersonalPBX), published as free software under GPL-2.0-or-later. There is no company behind it and no hosted service that the app reports to. When this policy says “the developer”, it means the project, not a firm collecting your data.

What the app handles, and where it goes

Everything below goes to exactly one place besides your phone: the PBX server you sign into when you set the app up. That server is yours, or your administrator’s — not the developer’s.

  • Sign-in. Your extension number and password, stored on your phone, sent only to your PBX server to register. Sign-in uses your extension number, not an email address.
  • Calls, texts, voicemail, push-to-talk, recordings. These travel through your PBX server and are stored on that server, under your server administrator’s control and retention. The app sends them nowhere else.
  • Contacts. The contacts the app shows come from your PBX server. The app does not read your phone’s address book, call log, or message store — it holds no such permissions.
  • Microphone and audio. Used only during calls, push-to-talk, and voicemail. Call audio goes to your PBX server as part of the call, and nowhere else.
  • Camera. Used only when you scan a pairing QR code while signing in or pairing the app.
  • Connection and notifications. The app keeps its own connection to your PBX server so calls and messages arrive. There is no third-party push service involved.
  • Crash reports. If the app crashes, the last crash (stack trace, app version, phone model) is saved on your phone only. Nothing is uploaded; it leaves your phone only if you copy it into a bug report yourself.
  • Updates. If you installed from Google Play, updates come from Google Play and the app never checks anywhere else for them. If you installed from GitHub, the app checks GitHub releases for new versions and installs one only when you approve it.

What the app does not do

  • No advertising, no analytics, no tracking SDKs, no location collection, no advertising ID.
  • Nothing is sold, and no data is shared with any third party.
  • The app contains no Google services.

If you installed from Google Play

Google handles the install and the update through Google Play, under Google’s own privacy policy. That is the only Google involvement: the app itself still contains no Google services and still talks only to your PBX server.

Your PBX server is separate from this policy

What happens to data once it reaches your PBX server — how long call records, messages, and recordings are kept there — is decided by whoever runs that server. This policy covers the app on your phone, not the server it connects to.

How long data stays on your phone

Sign-in details and app settings stay on your phone until you sign out or uninstall the app. Uninstalling removes the app’s on-device data.

Children

The app is not directed at children. It is a tool for users of a PBX system they (or their administrator) run.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page, with a new “last updated” date.
