My Phone for Android — Terms of Service

For the My Phone Android app (org.ownpbx.myphone), the free, open-source companion app for own-pbx. Last updated October 27, 2026.

In short

The app is free, open-source software, provided as-is with no warranty. It is a home and hobby tool — not a business, commercial, multi-tenant, carrier, or life-safety system. Emergency calling has not been tested end to end: do not rely on this app, or on own-pbx, for 911 calls.

What the app is

My Phone is developed by the own-pbx project (DanversKara/MyPersonalPBX), published as free software under GPL-2.0-or-later. There is no company behind it. The developer runs no hosted service for the app: the app talks only to the PBX server you sign into, and that server is yours, or your administrator’s — not the developer’s.

What you need to use it

The app is useless on its own: it needs a PBX server to connect to, and an account on that server, with an extension number and password. You are responsible for keeping your sign-in details safe. If the administrator of your server removes or suspends your account, the app stops working for you — that is expected, and it is the administrator’s decision, not the developer’s.

No warranty

The app is provided as-is, without warranty of any kind — including any promise that it will work, keep working, or be fit for any particular purpose. You use it at your own risk. The same applies to own-pbx itself: it is built and tested as a home/hobby PBX, and it is not intended for business, commercial, multi-tenant, carrier, or life-safety use.

Emergency calls

911/E911 has not been tested end to end. Do not rely on own-pbx for emergency calls — keep a mobile phone or landline available. Whether a 911 call connects, and what address emergency services receive for it, depends on the server administrator’s setup and the phone provider’s E911 registration for the number the call is sent with. That is outside what the app controls, and outside what these terms promise.

Plans and billing

This section is for people whose server offers plans through its Store page. Nobody is charged and nothing is created until the server administrator approves: a customer picks a plan (and optionally a phone number), enters their card on Stripe’s own checkout page, and the administrator approves before anything is charged or created. Billing questions go to whoever runs the server — the app developer runs no billing, holds no card details, and cannot refund or change a plan.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app to harass anyone, to send spam, to break the law, or to route calls in ways that violate your phone provider’s terms. If you record calls, you must follow call-recording laws. Abuse of a server you do not run is between you and that server’s administrator.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version will be posted on this page, with a new “last updated” date.
